This week we start a new feature: Creation Stories, to get a better look into how artists start out and what motivates them. Music Creates Us has always been about inspiration and what connects music lovers. So we’ve compiled questions fans might be curious to know about favorite (or future favorite) artists.
First up in the series is Bailey Baum, an alternative pop artist from Dallas, Texas, who began her career at the young age of 12. After graduating in May 2015, Bailey chose to move to LA to completely focus on her music career. She has recently dropped her new single “OMW,” which was featured on several Spotify playlists including Spotify’s Fresh Finds. We asked Bailey a few questions about her career, her inspirations and favorite songs.
How did you get your start?
I have been singing since I could talk. I began taking voice lessons in middle school and then started doing shows around town. I also started singing at church and leading worship. When I graduated High School at 18 years of age I took a huge step and moved to Los Angeles where I have been working hard writing, recording and pursuing my dream. I just released “OMW.”
Who and what has inspired your sound and latest single “OMW?”
I created a playlist of some of my favorite songs right now which includes artists like Lorde and Broods and was heavily inspired listening through my playlist, then “OMW” was born.
What is your favorite show memory?
I have only played a limited number of shows and have yet to experience that favorite show memory but can’t wait to be able to answer that question in the future.
What would be your dream tour and why?
I would love to tour with a lot of different people, One person that stands out is Lana Del Rey. I love her music and I love how creative she is and I think she would be an amazing person to work along side.
Tell us about your writing process, any unusual quirks?
For “OMW” we started off with creating something that we could vibe to and then everything else just fell together really fast.
What is your favorite song to cover?
My favorite song to cover right now is probably “Can’t Help Falling in Love” which I just released on Spotify as well.
If you would to create a soundtrack to your life what songs would be on it?
It would be a huge mix of songs from artist all the way from alternative pop to rap. I listen to a lot of Drake, Rihanna and Bryson Tiller but then also love artist like Broods, Halsey and Lorde ….. my life soundtrack would come from their albums and other artist like them.
Anything else you want to add?
This is only the beginning and I am excited to see where music takes me.
