Feature by Jake Seim
Before writing this feature, I hadn’t the slightest clue as to who Kodaline was; I had certainly been missing out. This brilliant indie-rock quartet, originally known as 21 Demands, from Dublin, Ireland is relatively quietly producing some fantastic music. Kodaline is comprised of lead vocals, rhythm guitar, and harmonica of Steve Garrigan, the bass of Jason Boland, lead guitar of Mark Prendergast, and the percussion of Vinny May.
Since changing their name in 2011, the band has been nominated for MTV’s “Brand New for 2013” award, as well as having their song, “All I Want” featured on popular television shows such as MTV’s Catfish, the CW’s Vampire Diaries, and ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy.
The band released their latest album, In A Perfect World, on June 17th, 2013. The album is highlighted by singles such as “All I Want,” “Love Like This,” and “High Hopes.” The music video for “High Hopes” is truly moving. It is not only a beautiful song, but a wonderful portrayal of the song’s story through imagery.
Kodaline is currently on a world-wide tour, featuring a show in Los Angeles at The Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever. Other U.S shows include Denver, Minneapolis, and Chicago. Following their March 7th Chicago show, the band will head back to its native Ireland to play shows throughout Europe through the end of July. The tour will finish in their hometown of Dublin, a special show for both fans and the band, I’m sure.
In A Perfect World is out on iTunes now and it is definitely worth the purchase.
