Today, we’d like to introduce you to MisterWives, a folk/pop NYC-based band who has recently been signed to Photo Finish Records. We had the opportunity to speak with lead singer, Mandy Lee, about the band’s formation, their upcoming EP, and memorable moments on tour. Read what she had to say below.
How did MisterWives form?
MisterWives originally started with Etienne, Will, and I. Will and I had been playing music for a while and around the same time I met Etienne, who worked a block away from me. We’d always talk about music so when we needed a drummer I invited Et to a rehearsal to jam and we instantly all vibed. Etienne played with Marc and Jesse in previous bands and invited them on board once we needed a full band to start playing live shows. Our first show all together was last February, which still feels like yesterday.
You’re about to head out on a US Tour this fall with American Authors and The Royal Concept. What are you looking forward to the most on this tour?
We are currently half way through the tour with AA and TRC and are having the time of [our] lives! Every day we look forward to seeing a new city, meeting new people, and getting to share our music with fans. It’s so crazy to wake up somewhere different everyday and get to experience a whole new surrounding, it never gets old.
Speaking of tour, the band has received a lot of buzz following your CMJ performances. What was that experience like? How was CMJ different compared to your other shows?
It was quite the whirlwind. We were just finishing up our first tour ever with Half Moon Run and were so excited to be home. Our final show of tour fell under CMJ week and was a sold-out show at Bowery Ballroom. It was definitely a mini-dream of ours come true.
What has been your most memorable moment on stage?
I’m not sure if there’s one specific moment but getting to play places we’ve never even been and seeing people in the audience sing the lyrics is a pretty wild feeling.
You currently have a few songs up on SoundCloud. Are you working on an album? Any information you can share about it?
Our EP will FINALLY be out January 7th on iTunes. Once that is out and about we are going to not see sunlight for a while and get a full length album recorded. We are very thrilled to be putting out our first piece of music; you’ll get to hear revamped versions of some tunes from our SoundCloud as well as a couple of new songs.
Anything else you would like to add?
Thanks for chatting with us, and thanks to all the fans that have come out so far! Can’t express enough how thankful we are for getting to do what we are doing. There’s nothing like doing what you love with the people you love most.
