By the time I was 16, I was completely consumed by live music and concerts. I went to every one that I could get my hands on and by doing that, I’ve met quite a few people in the industry. That is what got me addicted. I loved the lifestyle! The only problem was I didn’t know where to start… In 2008, I got my first chance! I spent a week in Vegas volunteering for Justin Timberlake’s golf tournament. All week I worked hard. I had no idea how much effort it took to run a golf tournament! In 2009, I went back to Vegas and did the same thing. By late 2009, my best friend who is a concert photographer introduced me to a new band she had begun to shoot photos for called 100 Monkeys. (For those that don’t know this is the band that Jackson Rathbone from Twilight formed) For 2010 and 2011, I was on and off the road touring with 100 Monkeys. I was the assistant to my friend who was the photographer and sometimes doubled as the assistant for their tour manager. I ran errands, held down the merch table, and occasionally had to act as security… This is when I fully realized my true passion. Touring! It is not an easy job, it is not always fun, but a bad day on tour beats a bad day somewhere else with a normal 9 to 5 job.
Currently I am attending Full Sail University getting my bachelors in the Entertainment Industry online. I work for a local band here in Kansas City called Not A Planet, and I do their merch for them. I also try to find other small gigs where I can, such as volunteering on Warped Tour this summer for the Kansas City stop. It has been a long road to even get started, but you have to have a passion for the industry to work in the industry. Probably some of the best advice I have ever gotten from a few of my mentors is “If you can be happy doing anything else, then do that. If you can’t, then get ready to work hard and never give up.”
